1995 Vulcan 1500 88 starting problems. I haven't ran my vulcan in about 2 years. I have replaced fuel filter, spark plugs, antifreeze gear oil, battery. I have also drained the fuel tank and replaced with new gas. I checked one of the new plugs for spark and it was ok.

The 95 and 96 models had a higher 1st and 2nd gear ratio than all others I believe. So then I turned it to 1 1/4 out backfiring was a little worse.This is because Kawasaki went and upgraded the oil pump from plastic to metal. The problem was most common on the Vulcan 1500 Classic models, and owners opted to replace the oil pump with a third-party one. Replacing the oil gear pump seems to solve the symptoms listed above. 2. You should find a knurled ring at the base of the choke knob (the holder I guess is the word) which may be covered by a rubber cover.
